US Capitol Police (USCP) reopened streets around the Capitol building in Washington, DC after investigating reports of a suspicious package, the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Office said in a Twitter message on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Capitol Police reopened streets around the Capitol building:

"Police activity all clear and all roads in the area are now open," the message said.

Streets near the Capitol were closed briefly as USCP responded to reports of two unattended packages outside the Capitol Visitor Center.

The Capitol was evacuated on Monday when a man attempted to shoot a USCP officer at a security checkpoint at the Visitor Center. Police shot the man, who was transported to a local hospital. US media identified the man as 66-year-old Larry Dawson.
