On Friday, the Secret Service announced that they have launched an investigation into the Anonymous doxing of Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump as part of OpWhiteRose.

On Thursday, the hacktivist collective posted video containing a link to a pastebin with information including phone numbers reported to belong to the candidate, as well as his social security number. The phone number listed, however, was already reported by Gawker in August 2015, in response to Trump giving out Lindsey Graham’s phone number to his supporters.

“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the Internet postings of Candidate Donald Trump’s personal information. We are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in this matter,” Secret Service spokesman Martin Mulholland said in Friday’s statement.

The Anonymous operation is named after a student resistance movement against Nazis, and posted video proclaims “the time has come for a movement morally strong enough to do battle against the forces of evil, bigotry and fascism that have come to the forefront of this election cycle in the United States.”

“To show that we are very serious about stopping any proposed Fourth Reich by the fascist Donald Trump, we have attached a “gift” of sorts: Trump’s social security number, cell phone number and other details that might be able to assist you all in independently investigating this would-be dictator. These are provided for informational purposes only. Do with them what you will, bearing in mind that you alone are responsible for your actions,” it states.

On Friday afternoon, the White Rose Society responded to the Secret Service announcement, claiming the information leak was not conducted by US citizens.

“FBI and Secret Service, i will save you the time since you have announced your investigation into Anonymous doxxing Trump: the people you are looking for don't even live in the United States. Pack your bags if you want to continue the hunt. Other than that, U.S. citizens have only reported on what they have done. To date, there is still freedom of the press, even though Trump would no doubt love to bring that to an end,” they wrote.

In a previous post, the group explains that they are decentralized but united under common principles, and that they have chapters across the US and internationally.

“The White Rose Society is an idea whose time has come. While we have scores of chapters across the United States, and even forming in other countries, there are no formal hierarchical positions of leadership within the White Rose Movement,” the post states. “Each individual chapter is self-initiated and autonomous, so long as the words and deeds of those working in the name of the chapter are consistent with the overarching theme and mission of the White Rose Society.”

When Sputnik called the phone numbers provided in the pastebin on Thursday, a busy signal was received for each one.
