MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – About 61 percent of the participants in the GEA-ISA poll conducted on March 5-8 have a negative opinion of Trump. Over 80 percent of Mexicans are against Trump’s plans to build a wall on the US-Mexico border.
"There is a deep rejection of Donald Trump. Two out of three citizens have a negative opinion of the tycoon, almost the same percentage have a positive opinion of Hillary Clinton," director of GEA Guillermo Valdes said as quoted by El Economista on Wednesday.
About 58 percent of Mexicans support Democratic US presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Fifty five percent of the poll respondents would like to see her as the next US president.
Trump, a billionaire businessman, has vowed, if elected US President, to construct a massive wall along the US border with Mexico to ensure all immigration was legal and controlled. He has said that Mexico should pay for the construction. The current leader in the Republican presidential race, Trump has been widely criticized for his controversial statements, including in relation to immigrants, Muslims, and women.
In announcing his presidential bid on June 16, Trump said illegal immigrants from Mexico bring mostly drugs and crime to the United States, and characterized Mexican immigrants as rapists.
