Former US Republican presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson endorsed New York real estate tycoon and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump during a news conference in Florida on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Carson dropped out of the race earlier in March after telling voters that he no longer saw a "political path forward."

"A house divided against itself cannot stand, we’re failing to take a leadership position on the world stage, now some people said, ‘Why would you get behind a man like Donald Trump?’" Carson said.

"I’ll tell you why, first of all I've come to know Donald Trump over the last few years, he's actually a very intelligent man who cares deeply about America."

Carson suggested that Trump would make a much better president that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
