The United States has offered the Pakistani government its help in probing the attack on the US mission in the country that killed two locally employed staff members, US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — “This senseless attack is a compelling reminder of the risk taken every day by our diplomats and the local staff around the world who make diplomacy possible,” Kerry said on Tuesday. “We have offered our assistance to the government of the region in investigating the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

Kerry added that the two consulate employees of the US Mission in Pakistan died in an attack against the Pakistani Anti-Narcotics Force convoy in Ambar area.

State Department spokesperson John Kirby told reporters earlier on Tuesday that Washington was unable to confirm if the attack against US consulate personnel in Pakistan was well-planned or caused by an improvised explosive device.

Pakistan's army announced last week the start of the final stage of the anti-terrorist operation in the region on the border with Afghanistan, which was launched in 2014. The operation called Zarb-e-Azb targets numerous extremist groups active in the country.

According to the Pakistani authorities, some 2,800 rebels have been killed since the start of the operation.
