Syrian Ceasefire: Cool Heads Have Prevailed in the West… at Least for Now
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "We do understand that these sorties [being flown by Russia over Syria] are ostensibly being flown against Daesh and al Nusra and others, but… we will have to watch the actual activity of the cessation to determine whether it is a valid one or not," Breedlove told the US Senate Armed Services Committee.

Over the weekend, a cessation of hostilities went into effect in Syria following negotiations between the United States and Russia. The cessation was agreed to by members of the UN Security Council, and intended to apply to all fighting parties inside Syria, except for the Nusra Front, Daesh — also known as the Islamic State — and other organizations designated by the UN as terrorist.

Against the Odds: Syrian Ceasefire May Lead to US-Russian Rapprochement
Breedlove welcomed "any genuine effort to bring a peace that is durable and meets the needs of the Syrian people."

Both the United States and Russia reported on Monday that the ceasefire has held without any incidents breaching the terms of the agreement.
