MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Last May, IRS identified 114,000 accounts of US taxpayers were accessed illegally by hackers. About 111,000 taxpayer accounts were targeted but not accessed.

"We are moving quickly to help these taxpayers," IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said in a statement.

A nine-month review of hacker attacks during the period from January 2014 through May 2015 found potential access of approximately 390,000 additional taxpayer accounts. Further 295,000 taxpayer accounts were targeted but access was not successful.
