Is Paris Conducting Covert Anti-Daesh Operations in Libya?
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama will likely talk about preventing the Islamic State, or Daesh, from gaining a foothold in Libya during his meeting with top military officials at the State Department on Thursday, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said during a press briefing ahead of the meeting.

"I think there will be some other elements that will be covered in the meeting including an update on our counter[Daesh]-finance efforts, some of the diplomatic work around the cessation of hostilities will obviously be covered and I certainly wouldn’t rule out discussion about ISIL's (Daesh) effort to gain a foothold in Libya as well," Earnest explained.

The White House spokesperson said that the leaders would also likely discuss what Washington was doing to prevent Daesh from "capitalizing on other areas where there is political turmoil and chaos" and that Libya was "the best example of that."
