WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States can reconsider the 2017 budget item for refugee assistance in case the envisaged funds are not sufficient, US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on his department’s 2017 budget on Tuesday.
"We don’t have way of predicting exactly what the demand is going to be," Kerry stated when asked why the allocated funds for migrants and refugees in the 2017 budget have been reduced. "We have just committed another $9.25 billion dollars to deal directly with the refugee crisis. I think around 6 billion directly for assistance, and other for education and relocation etc."
Kerry also noted, if the funds prove not to be enough, "we will obviously have to come back and discuss that with you."
