Mosier started posting photos of Doug in funny costumes, doing random things, like watching Netflix and eating fast food. Soon she began re-creating or spoofing celebrity photos and music videos — that's where the nickname "Doug the King of Pop Culture" comes in. Currently Doug boasts 1.4 million followers on Instagram and 3.7 million likes on Twitter. His images at times receive over 100,000 likes. Doug became so famous that managing his social network accounts is now Mosier's full-time job.
"It's changed everything," Mosier said, cited by Mashable. "I've really gotten the chance to take my life into my own hands and create what I want to create."
Doug has met a number of US celebrities, been smooched by Justin Bieber, sports his own ‘Doug the Pug' brand, and has now landed a book deal.
The coffee-table photo book, "Doug the Pug: The King of Pop Culture," will be published by Griffin, an imprint of St. Martin's Press. The book will include new photos as well as some of his biggest hits. Appearing at bookstores November 1, 2016, a hardcover edition will be available for $16.99. eBooks will be $9.99.
Mosier says that when she walks her dog in Nashville, people often recognize Doug. Now with a book coming out, Doug's popularity will truly raise him to pop culture royalty.
