President Barack Obama said that the US government should identify ways to prevent wealthy donors from influencing the country’s elections.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US government should identify ways to prevent wealthy donors from influencing the country’s elections, President Barack Obama said in his last State of the Union address.

“We have to reduce the influence of money in our politics, so that a handful of families and hidden interests can’t bankroll our elections  —  and if our existing approach to campaign finance can’t pass muster in the courts, we need to work together to find a real solution,” Obama stated on Tuesday evening.

The president added that he will travel throughout the United States in 2016 “to push for reforms” and modernize the voting process.
