White House Creates Units to Counter Extremist Propaganda in US, Abroad
20:04 GMT 08.01.2016 (Updated: 18:59 GMT 03.11.2022) The Obama administration has unveiled task forces that aim to improve the country’s efforts at home and abroad to counter violent extremism, White House National Security spokesperson Ned Price announced in a statement on Friday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Price explained that as part of the initiative the State Department would also establish a Global Engagement Center that would allow the United States to work with international partners to fight extremism.

"Today the US Government is announcing new initiatives to improve our international and domestic efforts to counter violent extremism," Price said.

Meanwhile, he stated that the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice would oversee the Countering Violent Extremism Task Force that would look at domestic counterterrorism issues.
The announcement comes as senior Obama administration officials including the president’s counterterrorism advisor Lisa Monaco, US Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson are in Silicon Valley meeting with executives from America’s top technology companies to discuss ways to prevent terrorists or criminals from launching attacks in cyberspace.
