WASHINGTON (Sputnik), Leandra Bernstein — Testing nuclear weapons is strictly forbidden under the UN Non-Proliferation Treaty.
"I do not see this administration really having any gravitas," McCaul said on Thursday of Obama's response to North Korea’s nuclear weapons test earlier in the week.
He added that he also does not anticipate the Obama administration "really doing anything in response to this [nuclear test]."
The Obama administration should be "working with China to enforce sanctions on North Korea," given China’s ability to influence Pyongyang, McCaul said.
North Korea is currently under tough international sanctions for violating nuclear non-proliferation conventions, but still maintains some economic ties to China.
Following the Wednesday nuclear test, Secretary of State John Kerry said he was in dialogue with his counterpart in Beijing to address concerns over North Korea’s behavior.
