WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – President Barack Obama continues to ignore the US Constitution by avoiding lawmakers to implement gun control measures, US House Representative Billy Long said in a press release on Wednesday.
“After 7 years, it's certainly not a surprise that President Obama continues to treat the Constitution and the legislative powers it grants Congress as mere suggestions that he doesn’t need to follow,” Long stated. “As a former law professor he knows it's not his prerogative to change the law to bypass Congress and the will of the American people."
Obama has unsuccessfully sought more sweeping gun-control measures from Congress, especially after a 2012 massacre of school children in the US state of Connecticut.
Opponents typically cite the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, which gives private individuals the right to own guns.
