US to Review Command Structure Amid Current Threats, Budget Cuts
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US House and Senate will not make the Wednesday deadline for passing a $1.1 trillion federal budget and will extend short-term funding through Thursday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said at a Politico event on Tuesday.

"The CR [continuing resolution] expires tomorrow. We will do a short-term [funding bill] to accommodate the fact that we will have to pass this on Thursday," Ryan said of the federal budget.

The US Congress initially set a December 11 deadline to fund the federal government through 2016 or face a government shutdown. The shutdown was averted last week when Congress passed a temporary spending bill, or continuing resolution, to fund the government through Wednesday.
