US Senators Chuck Grassley and Patrick Leahy introduced the FBI Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2015 that expands protections and compensation for whistleblowers as well as provides for independent administrative law judges to review their cases.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senators Chuck Grassley and Patrick Leahy introduced a bill to better protect FBI whistleblowers, the National Whistleblowers Center announced in a statement on Friday.

On Thursday, the Grassley and Leahy introduced the FBI Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2015 that expands protections and compensation for whistleblowers as well as provides for independent administrative law judges to review their cases.

"The bill will significantly strengthen FBI whistleblower protections including providing compensatory damages for whistleblowers, expanding the scope of protected activity, ending bureaucratic delays in processing FBI whistleblower cases, and allowing for review of case by independent administrative law judges," the statement said.

The bill comes after a US Government Accountability Office report in January found that FBI failed on numerous occasions to protect whistleblowers. The report noted that lengthy delays and severe shortcomings to grant whistleblowers protections often accompanied their cases.
