The US Department of Justice will launch an investigation into the Chicago Police Department’s (CPD) use of force and other practices following the fatal shooting of African-American teen Laquan McDonald by a police officer, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announce during a press conference on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US attorney general added the investigation will focus on a number of issues, including CPD’s “use of deadly force, racial, ethnic and other disparities" as well as its "accountability mechanisms."

"Today I'm here to announce that the Department of Justice has opened an investigation into whether the Chicago Police Department has engaged in a pattern or practice of violations of the Constitution or federal law," Lynch stated.
