A third person might have been involved in the purchase of weapons used by Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik in their attack on a holiday party at Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, The Los Angeles Times reports.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The attack, carried out by the couple on Wednesday, after a dispute at the party that Farook was involved in, left 14 people dead and over 20 injured.

According to San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan, the attackers used two assault rifles and two semi-automatic handguns in the shooting.

Farook purchased the handguns at a "family-friendly gun store" called Annie’s Get Your Gun, an unanimous federal law enforcement source told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

When the newspaper tried contacting the store, a woman who identified herself as Anne the store-owner denied that the weapons used in the San Bernardino shooting were bought from her.

The two rifles used in the attack were purchased "by a separate individual at a second [unidentified] store," The Los Angeles Times said on Thursday, referring to the same law enforcement source.

According to the source, authorities believe that the rifles were bought by Farook’s former roommate.

Burguan told journalists on Thursday that Farook, a US citizen, had no criminal record and that the recovered weapons were legally purchased.

US President Barack Obama said on Thursday that the FBI is now looking into possible motives behind the deadly California shooting, and that a possibility of it being linked to terrorism is not excluded.
