NEW YORK (Sputnik) – The additional officers will cost approximately $3 million and will be trained in techniques to counter active shooters and other situations.
"The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will hire 46 more Police Officers to increase counterterrorism capabilities at Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station and throughout the Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road and Staten Island Railway systems," Cuomo’s office said.
Moreover, Cuomo announced a new campaign that would allow New Yorkers to report suspicious activity though a smart phone application by capturing the suspicious activity as a photo or sending a written note to the New York State Intelligence Center for review.
"These new efforts are essential pieces in our fight against terrorism," Cuomo said. "We have stepped up our preparedness in the aftermath of the Paris attacks, and we continue to remain vigilant against those who seek to speared fear and violence."
On November 13, at least 130 people were killed in a series of deadly terrorist attacks in Paris. The Islamic State terrorists claimed responsibility for the assaults.
