MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The incident took place in the Miami-Dade County on Sunday. The police, according to the Miami Herald newspaper, received a call about a carjacking, and later calls over two robberies. The police then spotted a car and the driver lost control.
"He exits and takes off on foot. The officer chases him. There was a confrontation… Our officers are trained to deal when confronted with a threat. We don't know if there was an exchange of gunfire, but we recovered a handgun," Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said, as quoted by the media outlet.
According to the newspaper, this is a fourth police shooting of a teenager since Friday night.
Over the past year, the United States experienced a wave of massive protests and riots after an unarmed African-American teen was fatally shot by a white police officer who walked away free from any charges.
The fatal shooting triggered protests around the United States calling for an end to police brutality and racial equality.
