Man Arrested for Threatening to Kill Black Mizzou Students

Students and activists were sent into a panic on Tuesday evening after anonymous threats were made on social media against all black students at the University of Missouri, where ongoing demonstrations against racism, under the hashtag #ConcernedStudent1950, have shaken up the campus community.

Massive demonstrations, lead by the school’s football team, against racism and discrimination on campus have already led to the resignation of the university system’s president Tim Wolfe. The top administrator of the flagship Columbia campus, Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin, was also forced to resign.

On Tuesday, 19-year-old Hunter M. Park was arrested for posting threats to social media platform YikYak, claiming that he will "shoot every black person I see." He further added, "some of you are alright. Don't go to campus tomorrow."

The threats appeared to echo those left on online message board 4chan before the mass shooting on a small college campus in Roseburg, Oregon in October, though no weapons were found in Park’s possession.

"It's really disheartening and proves the point of why these protests and boycotts were necessary," Gaby Rodriguez, a senior, told Fox News, referring to actions taken by the college community in recent weeks. "I don't think I've ever felt this unsafe at Mizzou.”

The messages led to the protest encampment being disassembled and cleared by campus security, and many professors opted to cancel classes on Wednesday.

One professor drew massive criticism after referring to the terroristic threats as “bullying” and refusing to cancel his class, promising that a scheduled exam would still be taking place.

The university’s decision not to cancel classes campus-wide to protect their black student body has led to walk-outs in solidarity at schools across the country, including Yale University, Smith College, and Ithaca College.

Protesters have also reported groups of white students circling and shouting racial slurs at students of color. An additional threat was called in during a meeting between #ConcernedStudent1950 demonstrators and a black student organization.

On Tuesday, Chuck Henson, a black law professor and associate dean was appointed the school’s first-ever vice chancellor for inclusion, diversity, and equity.
