Wayne Simmons, 62, of Annapolis, Maryland, has been remanded to the custody of the US Marshals, as a Virginia judge ruled that he is a “significant danger” to the community — citing his 11 DUI arrests, a 2007 arrest for assault, and multiple felony firearm convictions.
The court also noted that during his most recent arrest, he was in possession of multiple firearms.
Amazingly, Simmons claimed on national security forms that his arrests were related to his work with the CIA, as he would often try to get work as a defense contractor.
From 1973 until 2000, Simmons masqueraded as an “Outside Paramilitary Special Operations Officer” for the Central Intelligence Agency — a lie that lead to him being indicted by a grand jury last week for fraud against the United States, wire fraud, and making false statements to the government.
Simmons was so successful in his storytelling, that he was even once deployed overseas and employed as an intelligence advisor to senior military officials.
Simmons is also indicted for defrauded someone out of $125,000 in a bogus real estate deal.
If convicted, Simmons faces a maximum of 20 years in prison relating to the wire fraud, 10 years in prison for the major fraud against the US government, and 5 years in prison for the counts relating to his false statements.
Simmons is scheduled to be arraigned on October 23, at 9 a.m. in Alexandria, Virginia.
