Two people were killed when a plane crashed at the joint civil-military Hammond Northshore Regional Airport in the US state of Louisiana, WDSU-TV reports.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon outside the Hammond Industrial Park. According to WDSU-TV, it was not immediately clear whether the plane involved in the accident was a military or civilian one.

US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials said as cited by WAFB-TV that the plane was a twin-engine Cessna 421 light transport aircraft.

WAFB-TV cited FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford as saying on Wednesday that "the plane had trouble shortly after taking off and crashed while trying to return to the field."

FAA is currently investigating the crash.

The identities of the two victims have not been released.

According to WDSU-TV, the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport currently hosts about 90 aircraft — general, corporate and military ones.
