The US government suspended a training program of rebel fighters in Syria. Now, US President Barack Obama introduced a new approach, which also raises questions about its feasibility, German newspaper Die Welt wrote.

After millions of dollars were spent on the training program for Syrian soldiers that brought no positive results, US President Barack Obama proposed a new plan in order to hide the failure of the United States, Die Welt wrote.

First, Obama admitted that he had no strategy.  Then he tried to restore the training program of Syrian fighters. However, when the program had not produced any positive results, the US president had to suspend it and recognize the inefficiency of the Pentagon’s military operation, the article said.

Instead of spending millions on training Syrian soldiers, the United States now intends to supply Arab and Kurdish troops with weapons, equipment and means of communication as well as provide military instruction for them.

However, the newspaper doubts whether the new plan could be effectively implemented.

"The new approach seems to be just an attempt to hide the Obama administration's helplessness and to provide at least something, resembling a strategy," the article said.

According to the newspaper, the US government is trying to present a new plan as part of the overall concept, which undergoes continuous development and adapts to changing conditions. However, it is unlikely that the initiative will bring much success and contribute to the resolution of the crisis.
