WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Pennsylvania State Police are worried that terrorists disguised as law enforcement officers might launch attacks during Pope Francis’ visit to the United States according to an internal police department memorandum, NBC News reported.
Pennsylvania State Police's Criminal Intelligence Center distributed a memorandum warning that "imposters pretending to be first responders could use false identification to enter secure areas and wreak havoc before slipping away undetected," the report said on Monday.
The memo cited "instances at home and abroad where suspects donned or were in possession of police uniforms in a bid to carry out an attack."
The report was based on Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation reports, the report explained.
Pope Francis is set to visit the United States on September 22-27, marking his first papal visit to the country.
