MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A 9-year-old child was shot dead and three other people were injured in a shooting in the US city of Charlotte in North Carolina, the local media reported citing local police.
Previous police statements have said that the child killed in the shooting was a girl. Later in the night, Charlotte police officials issued a correction saying the victim is a 9-year-old boy.
“It’s a sad state of affairs. We have a lot of soul searching to do when as a city, and as a country, a 9-year-old [boy] isn’t safe playing in [his] front yard,” statement by a local police official said, as cited by the media.
The incident happened in the yard of a private house during a family party, the media reported. Two adults and one other child were lightly injured, according to the WSOC-TV media portal.
Authorities are reportedly looking for the suspect responsible. The motive of the shooting is unclear, according to the news outlet.
