WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama agrees with the US federal appeal court which overturned a lower court ruling on the unconstitutionality of government mass surveillance, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on Friday.
"I think the ruling of the court is actually consistent with what this administration has said for some time, which is we did believe that these capabilities were constitutional," Earnest said when asked whether Obama agreed with the recent court ruling.
Earlier on Friday, the District of Columbia appeals court dismissed a lower court’s ruling that intended to prevent the US National Security Agency (NSA) from bulk collection of metadata.
