Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton told a pack of reporters in Las Vegas she did not know if her private email server had been wiped clear of data, according to media reports.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Clinton was quizzed on the issue, which continues to dog her, after holding a town hall-style meeting with voters in North Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

Media reports described Clinton as occasionally short-tempered and sharp during the brief exchange, which was quickly ended by one of her staff.

When asked if she knew whether her server was wiped clean, Clinton replied, "What, like with a cloth or something?" according to the Washington Post report.

She was then asked again if her server had been wiped and this time replied "I don’t know how it works at all," according to the report.

A third reporter asked Clinton as she departed whether the issue would ever disappear and she replied, "Nobody talks to me about it other than you guys."

The private e-mail server that Clinton operated from her home during her four years as US secretary of state was seized last week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from the data center where it was being stored in New Jersey for more than two years.

Clinton had approved the FBI taking control of the server as part of a probe to check whether the data she had stored there was secure.

"In order to be as cooperative as possible, we have turned over the server," the Post quoted Clinton as telling reporters, also on Tuesday. "In retrospect, what was meant to be convenient has turned out to be anything but convenient."

Clinton already released 30,000 work related emails from her private account to the State Department in December 2014. She claims that she deleted the other 31,000 emails she sent and received on the server because they were personal.
