MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US billionaire Donald Trump strengthened his polling position among Republican presidential hopefuls, securing 24 percent of GOP voter support, a CNN/ORC International poll revealed Tuesday.

Trump’s support increased by five percent against a similar survey conducted July 22-25, according to pollsters. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush follows Trump with 13 percent, a 2-percent decline since the previous poll.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson took third place with 8 percent and showed a 4-percent rise compared to the previous poll, the survey showed.

Other candidate received 7 or less percent support in the survey.

The pollsters stated that they interviewed 1,001 adult United States citizens by telephone August 13-16. According to the statistics, 302 self-described as Republicans and 204 as independents who 'lean' Republican.

Trump has drawn US and international media attention, with his controversial and, some say, childish remarks on immigration and women.
