St. Louis County in Missouri will extend its state of emergency for another day.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — St. Louis County in Missouri will extend its state of emergency for another day despite relative peace that followed a wave of violent protests earlier in the week, local media reported.

“St. Louis County’s ‘State of Emergency’ will remain in effect for at least one more day,” local media KTVI reported on Thursday.

On Monday, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger declared a state of emergency in Ferguson, Missouri and in the surrounding areas.

The authorities undertook the decision because of mass unrest following rallies that commemorated the shooting death of unarmed African-American teenager Michael Brown by police last year.

On the anniversary of Brown’s death on Sunday, police shot and critically wounded 18-year-old Tyrone Harris for allegedly opening fire on them. Harris, reportedly Brown’s friend, was charged with ten counts of assault and armed criminal action.

In 2014, the death of Michael Brown triggered riots in Ferguson and protests throughout the United States after a grand jury decided not to indict the police officer who shot Brown.
