WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Twenty inmates were injured in a crash involving an Arizona Department of Corrections bus on Interstate 8 Highway, according to local media reports on Tuesday.
ABC 15 Arizona reported that an Arizona Department of Corrections bus carrying 50 inmates crashed into a semi-truck carrying herbicide on Interstate 8.

Twenty-two people, including 20 inmates and two staff members were injured in the crash, and have been sent to a hospital, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections.
The inmates, all of whom were minimum security prisoners, stayed on the scene to help with directing traffic and administering first aid to the injured.
The number of inmates who died in US prisons has been increasing for the third consecutive year, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. In 2013, a total of 4,446 inmates died in the United States.
