OSCOW (Sputnik) – Two of the 9 people injured by the gunman have died, according to police. The other eight wounded have been taken to the hospital.
"Their [victims’] conditions range from non-life threatening to critical," Craft said.
According to Lafayette police, the shooter, who used a handgun, is a white male in his 50s.
"We do know the identity of the shooter, we are not releasing it at this time," Craft told reporters on Thursday, confirming that the shooter had killed himself and injured multiple people.
According to local media, the shooting took place inside the Grand Theatre in Lafayette. Police are now checking the theater and the parking lot for explosives.
The shooting took place during the 7 p. m. showing of the “Train Wreck” comedy.

City Marshal Brian Pope confirmed for The Daily Advertiser on Thursday that a gunman opened fire inside the Grand Theater in Lafayette, injuring six people. According to Pope, one of the victims has since died. The shooter killed himself after opening fire.

Eyewitnesses say that thy heard a loud noise and saw a white man shooting, but did not hear anybody screaming.
Police are now checking the theater and the parking lot for explosives, according to a local TV station.
According to Katie Domingue, the shooter stood up and opened fire at the 7 p.m. showing of “Train Wreck,” about 20 minutes into the movie. Domingue was watching the movie with her fiancé Joshua Doggett, The Daily Advertiser said.
Brian David, a spokesman for the Louisiana State Police, said as cited by CBS that several of the injured have been transported to local hospitals.
