MOSCOW (Sputnik) – In an interview with the Washington-based political daily The Hill late Wednesday, Trump called the Republican National Committee (RNC) "very foolish" for rebuking his recent controversial comments.
"Absolutely, if they’re not fair that would be a factor," Trump said when asked if he would consider a third-party campaign.
The real estate tycoon who leads the 16-candidate Republican field of candidates in most polls denounced the RNC for not being "supportive."
"They were always supportive when I was a contributor. I was their fair-haired boy."
Announcing his candidacy on June 16, Trump characterized undocumented immigrants from Mexico as "rapists" and "drug dealers," and last week suggested that US Senator John McCain was called a war hero merely "because he was captured."
Most GOP candidates balked at Trump’s comments, with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus urging Trump to play down his contentious rhetoric.
