New York City has cut all commercial relations with US presidential candidate Donald Trump, following several controversial comments he made about Mexican immigrants and prisoners of war, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a press conference.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — On Saturday, Trump spurred controversy once again by slamming US Senator John McCain’s Vietnam War record, saying the Senator became a war hero, because he was captured, and added he likes people who were not.

“My impression is that unless there has been some breaking of a contract or something that gives us a legal opportunity to act, I’m not sure we have a specific course of action,” de Blasio said Monday. “But we’re certainly not looking to do any business with him going forward.”

Republican presidential candidates, as well as the Republican National Committee were quick to denounce Trump for his remarks.

Trump explained in a statement that he responded to McCain’s characterization of his supporters as "crazies."

The business tycoon previously drew media attention for his scathing comments, while announcing his presidential bid on June 16, 2015, when he characterized immigrants from Mexico as rapists who bring mostly drugs and crime to the United States.

“Trump’s comments do not represent the values of inclusion and openness that define us as New Yorkers,” de Blasio said. “Our Mexican brothers and sisters make up an essential part of this city’s vibrant and diverse community, and we will continue to celebrate and support New Yorkers of every background.”

How The Donald is Trumping US ‘Fake-ocracy’

Several business entities, including the Macy’s department store and two television stations already cut business ties with Trump. Moreover, the New York government put Trump’s contracts with the city under review.

The Trump Organization currently operates two public skating rinks in New York City, according to the company’s website.

In addition, The Trump Organization was chosen to construct a 7,200 yard gold course in Ferry Point, New York. While the course is already completed, the company’s website states there are still plans to build a $10 million dollar clubhouse on the property.

Almost 60 percent of Republicans now favor Trump as the next US president, according to a poll released by The Washington Post and ABC News on Wednesday.
