Allstate Insurance Company Claims Vice President Shawn Broadfield says that a recent decision by the US Federal Aviation Administration will allow insurance companies to use drones to evaluate claims made after natural disasters.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A recent decision by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will allow insurance companies to use drones to evaluate claims made after natural disasters, Allstate Insurance Company Claims Vice President Shawn Broadfield said in a press release.

"Clearing this hurdle is a big step forward as we continue to research the benefits of using drones in our property claims service," Broadfield said on Wednesday. "Having the ability to use drones in areas hit-hard by catastrophe where accessibility is limited will help us better assist our customers when they need us most.”

Terrorists May Use Commercial Drones for Chemical, Biological Attacks
The FAA granted the exemption for commercial drones to fly over areas hit by natural disaster with permission from property owners, in daylight with a visual observer, and at an altitude not above 400 feet among other requirements.

Allstate said this ruling will allow a consortium of insurance companies to use drones to assess claims after natural disasters until May 2017.

Allstate Insurance Company is the United States’ largest publicly held insurer personal insurance, including auto and home insurance. It insures about 16 million American households, according to their website.
