US House Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy told reporters that former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal did not write or know the source of the Benghazi intelligence memos that he forwarded to Clinton.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal did not write or know the source of the Benghazi intelligence memos that he forwarded to Clinton, US House Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy told reporters following Blumenthal’s closed hearing testimony on Tuesday, according to local media.

"What we learned today is he [Blumenthal] is not the author of a single one of those memos,” The Hill quoted Gowdy as saying. “He was passing on information authored by someone else and he has no idea about the credibility or reliability of any of the sources."

Gowdy stated Blumenthal did not vet the information that was forwarded to Clinton, according to media.

Earlier on Tuesday, US Congress obtained new e-mails that amount to 120 pages between Clinton and Blumenthal prior to his deposition on Tuesday, Gowdy said in a release.

In May 2015, the State Department released 296 of Clinton’s e-mails, detailing how she handled the terrorist attacks in Benghazi on the US diplomatic compound before and after the incident.

Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other US government employees were killed in the Benghazi attacks, and ten others were injured.
