More than 63 percent of US respondents of the recent poll said Congress should pass a law allowing people in all states to recieve financial help from the government to obtain health insurance.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The majority of Americans think the US Congress should pass a law allowing people in all 50 states to receive government assistance to obtain health insurance, according to a Kaiser Foundation poll issued on Tuesday.

“About six in ten (63 percent) say Congress should pass a law so that people in all states can be eligible for financial help from the government,” the analysis of the poll results said.

On March 4, 2015, the US Supreme Court began hearing arguments in the King v. Burwell case that challenges the legality of Obamacare’s subsidies to low- and moderate-income residents. Subsidies allow Americans to obtain health insurance in 37 US states that have opted out of purchasing health insurance through Obamacare’s healthcare exchanges.

Poll respondents said if the Supreme Court rules in late June 2015 that the subsidies are illegal, Congress should pass legislation to protect subsidies.

Estimated six million citizens can be left without financial aid for health insurance.

On March 23, 2010, US President Barack Obama signed into law the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, in a bid to make healthcare in the United States more affordable.

Republicans have argued that despite Obama’s promises, US taxpayers continue to be hit by rising costs, decreased quality of healthcare and health provider choices.
