US Homeland Security Chief to Discuss Fighting Terror With Local Muslims

US Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson will meet local Muslim leaders in Sterling, Virginia to discuss countering violent extremism civil rights and, All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Chair Rizwan Jaka told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On May 7, 2015, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) asked the public to help authorities fight a new type of threat in which terrorist organizations issue calls for individuals to carry out acts of violence.

“We are holding a town hall meeting with the Secretary of Homeland Security at the ADAMS with other mosque leaders,” Jaka said on Thursday. “We will be talking about counter-violent extremism, counter radicalization and civil rights.”

Jaka said the Sterling meeting would explore additional “collaboration and partnerships to help protect our nation as well as protect our rights.”

Participants would also discuss “how the Muslim community can continue to work together with the Department of Homeland Security and law enforcement,” he added.

On May 8, 2015, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey warned there are hundreds, possibly thousands, of Islamic State followers in the United States that are being urged to kill Americans.
