The annual report covers US government agencies’ security classification activities, and provides an update on the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) program.

US President Barack Obama ordered the report in Executive Order 13526 on December 29, 2009. It was mandated by Classified National Security Information.

In 2014, US agencies reviewed 597,498 pages of official documents, fully declassified 372,134 pages and retained classification of 34,710 pages.

The Information Security Oversight Office is responsible to the President of the United States for overseeing the US Government’s security classification program, and receives policy and program guidance from the National Security Council.
