WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — An intern for Kansas Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins was arrested Monday morning for bringing a handgun to the US Capitol building, local media reported.
“A congressional intern was arrested Monday morning for allegedly trying to bring a handgun into a Capitol Hill office building,” Fox News reported on Monday.
The handgun was found when Capitol police conducted their routine security search before allowing people to enter the congressional office buildings.
Wheeler is now being charged with carrying a handgun without a license and holding an unregistered firearm, according to reports.
A spokesperson for Congresswoman Jenkins said they believe the 25-year-old brought the gun accidentally and has been fully cooperating with police.
