WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In March, 2015, US Senate Democrats initially opposed a version of the Act because its abortion provision would restrict victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation from having access to the health services.
“President [Obama] signed into law… the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015, which makes amendments to several provisions of the law administered by the Departments of Justice, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security to assist victims of human trafficking crimes and to combat human trafficking,” the release, issues on Friday, said.
On April 22, 2015, the US Senate unanimously passed a compromise version of the bill. On May 19, 2015, the US House of Representatives passed the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act by a 420-3 margin.
