Charles County Sherriff’s deputies reached the park in La Plata, Maryland, at about 7 a.m. They cut the chains on the swing, removed the child, and gave him first aid. However, “it was instantaneity clear that the child was dead,” according to Charles County Sherriff’s Office spokesperson Diane Richardson.
No evidence of trauma was found on the child’s body. There were also no obvious signs of foul play, but it has not been ruled out, according to Richardson.
Now, investigators are trying to trace the mother’s recent activity. Deputies say she answered a few of their questions before being taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
"It’s a very sad and tragic situation for the mother, her family, the officers,” Richardson said. “All of us want answers. We’re working very hard on that.”
