A medical examiner’s preliminary findings suggest that the spinal cord injury which led to Gray’s death was likely caused by slamming against the walls of the police van. Wounds on the victim’s head also match bolts inside the vehicle, against which Gray may have bashed his head.
Friends of Gray and supporters of his family have spoken out against the report, saying they don't believe the 25-year-old would have sought to hurt himself, and demonstrators in Baltimore are angry at the delay in more information being made public.
Gray’s death reignited national outrage over police brutality which has led to a series of peaceful protests across the country, as well as the riots in Baltimore Monday night.
Thursday saw fresh marches in the city, as well as solidarity demonstrations in Philadelphia.
Details of the police investigation have not yet been made public, and are being reviewed by state prosecutors.
