US Vice President Joe Biden swore in Loretta Lynch as the country's 83rd attorney general on Monday.
In her statement, Lynch said she hopes to “restore trust and faith” in the US law and lawmakers, apparently referring to the current efforts to improve relations between the police and minorities.
Lynch is the first African-American woman to hold such a high-ranking law enforcement position in the country. She previously served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
The official ceremony was held at the US Department of Justice, a few days after her confirmation by the US Senate
