Cruz Urges Clinton to Return Foreign Donations Made to Clinton Foundation

Ted Cruz said that Hillary Clinton must return all donations made by foreign governments to the Clinton Foundation since they represent a clear case of conflict of interest.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton must return all donations made by foreign governments to the Clinton Foundation since they represent a clear case of conflict of interest, US Senator Ted Cruz said in a statement on Friday.

“I call on Hillary Clinton to return the donations from foreign governments,” Cruz said on Friday. “At the very least, these revelations present a clear conflict of interest.”

Cruz said the conflict of interest comes from the fact that Clinton was US Secretary of State when the Clinton Foundation collected tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments, which include donors who had business interests with the State Department.

“She [Clinton] made decisions in that capacity that likely benefited the same people who were giving large donations to the Foundation,” Cruz added.

Until Clinton returns the donations, Cruz concluded, the situation brings into question whether the American people can trust her.

Cruz has served in the US Senate since January 3, 2013. Prior to his time as a US Senator, he served as Solicitor General of the US state of Texas from January 9, 2003 to May 12, 2008.
