WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Police have identified the person who committed suicide on the grounds of the US Capitol on Saturday, the Washington, DC Police Department announced.
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have identified the decedent from the death investigation on the US Capitol Grounds,” the DC Police Department statement issued on Monday read.
On Saturday afternoon, the US Capitol building and several streets in the area were closed down for about an hour as police were examining a suspicious package that the gunman allegedly left on the lower west terrace of Capitol and searching for the shooter's car.
The victim had a suitcase with him during the incident, a witness of the shooting told Sputnik on Saturday.
The investigation into the US Capitol suicide remains ongoing, according to the police statement on Monday.
