US State Department acting spokesperson Marie Harf said that Kerry will hold a classified briefing with all members of the US Congress on Monday to provide more details on the Iran nuclear negotiations.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State will hold a classified briefing with all members of the US Congress on Monday to provide more details on the Iran nuclear negotiations, US State Department acting spokesperson Marie Harf said in a press briefing.

“Today, this afternoon, [Kerry] will be briefing all members of the House in a classified session on the Iran negotiations,” Harf stated. “Tomorrow morning he will be doing the same thing with the Senate.”

Harf explained that the US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, along with leading US nuclear scientists, will join the briefing.

“The consultations with Congress have undoubtedly played a role in how we moved forward with our negotiating strategy,” Harf added.

On April 2, 2015, the P5+1 group of countries, including the United States, France, Russia, China and the United Kingdom plus Germany, reached a political framework agreement with Iran aimed at guaranteeing the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program. The framework agreement will be followed with a comprehensive technical agreement set to be reached by June 30, 2015.

US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement on April 7 that the US Senate will vote on legislation that seeks to ensure lawmakers will have a say before a final agreement is reached with Iran on its nuclear program.

In March 2015, the White House said the US Congress should not vote on any legislation that could affect the outcome of the Iran nuclear negotiations before June 2015.
