Lawmakers Say Religious Liberty Law Distorts US State of Indiana's Image

Indiana lawmakers claim that the US state of Indiana should repeal the Indiana Religious Liberty Law because it distorts the state’s image to the public and discriminates against other residents.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US state of Indiana should repeal the Indiana Religious Liberty Law because it distorts the state’s image to the public and discriminates against other residents, Indiana lawmakers said in statements.

“Governor Mike Pence won’t say it, but we will: discrimination is wrong and should be illegal in our state,” Indiana State Senator Tim Lanane said on Monday. “We do not condone discrimination: we do not tolerate discrimination: we won’t legislate discrimination.”

Indiana Representative Scott Pelath said the Law could do long-term damage to Indiana and its people as extraordinarily talented and welcoming.

“Repeal of this law is only the first step in reversing the damage the law has done,” Pelath said on Monday.

To fix the problems the Law has created for the state, Lanane prescribes a new legislation to replace it immediately.

“This is a second chance and it’s precious,” Lanane said.

The state cannot afford to forfeit a single job or drive out a single talented individual, he added.

Indiana is located in the Mid-Western part of the United States, and with more than 6.5 million inhabitants is the 16th most populous state of the 50 United States.
