MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The union complained that TSA employees, banned from carrying weapons, are the first security officials that airport passengers come in contact with and they are often involved in potentially dangerous situations.
"We have had one of our employees murdered in Los Angeles. We had an attempted murder this Friday in New Orleans. We need law enforcement there that is ready to respond," national president of the American Federation of Government Employees J. David Cox said as quoted by CNN.
The union urged for new measures after a Friday attack at the New Orleans airport, when a man sprayed passengers and airport security personnel with a wasp spray and threatened them with a machete at a security checkpoint. He was shot and later died of wounds.
