US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that flooding concerns are being raised for parts of the Central and Eastern United States because of record snow fall and unusually cold temperatures from February through early March.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Flooding concerns are being raised for parts of the Central and Eastern United States because of record snow fall and unusually cold temperatures from February through early March, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said in a release.

“Record snowfall and unusually cold temperatures in February through early March retained a significant snowpack across eastern New England and western New York,” the release, issued on Thursday, said.

Shocking Sea Level Rise Off New York Promises Future Floods
“There is a 50 percent chance of exceeding moderate flood levels in small streams and river in the lower Missouri basin in Missouri and eastern Kansas, which typically experience minor to moderate flooding during the spring,” it added.

Small river flooding might also take place from the Gulf Coast region through the Ohio River Valley and into the southeast from Texas eastward and up the coast to Virginia, according to the NOAA.

NOAA found that parts of the Ohio River basin, including the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers, have already seen moderate flooding from melting snow and recent heavy rains, the release said.

NOAA is a US government agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere.
